RoboCop: Rogue City Delayed til November

24 Aug 2023 RoboCop: Rogue City Delayed til November

The upcoming shooter game by Nacon is exclusive to current generation consoles and will use Unreal Engine 5.

With a legacy as entrenched in pop culture as the steel-clad enforcer of justice himself, RoboCop: Rogue City finds itself being potentially met with both excitement and skepticism, raising the bar for what fans can expect from the video game adaptation of one of media's most iconic figures. Unfortunately, the deafaning silence surrounding the game gives way to discussions about whether or not the RoboCop game will be released in September, as per earlier announcements.

If you head on over to page/slide 80 of the said report, you'll find Nacon's list of upcoming games for the current fiscal year, which has RoboCop: Rogue City penciled in for a November 9 release.

It's unclear why this unconfirmed delay is happening, but it's possible that it could be related to Starfield. It's common for video game developers to duck and avoid big-time releases when possible. Larian Studios did this with Baldur's Gate 3 and it certainly has paid of well for them. The early PC release gave Baldur's Gate 3 a chance to hog the spotlight all to itself while drumming up unbelievable amounts of hype for the upcoming PlayStation 5 launch. However, not every title has spent three years in Early Access alone, so Nacon might not feel as confident to release RoboCop: Rogue City.

Scrolling through various forums and social media sites on the internet yields information from the closed beta for the in-development RoboCop project suggesting that Nacon needs to give the game more polishing.

With only months to go before the listed November 9 release date for RoboCop: Rogue City, it's possible NaCon might push the game's release back even further.

Keep in mind that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 comes out on November 10 and the hype surrounding the upcoming Call of Duty entry will likely overshadow anything that will release days leading up to its release.

It appears Nacon finds itself stuck between a rock and a hard place, unable to find a proper release date for Robocop: Rogue City that gives it the opportunity to shine.

Of course, there's always the option of delaying it to next year if not the next fiscal year. This would give developers a chance to improve Robocop: Rogue City and, at the very least, guarantee that it can keep up with whatever AAA title hits the market in the same month that it does.

Ultimately, this is all speculation at the moment. What's certain is RoboCop: Rogue City is listed in official documents as having a release date of November 9. Whether or not it will be ready by then remains to be seen.

Speaking of RoboCop, the franchise featuring one of media's most revered cybernetic figures is part of Amazon Studios' planned revival, which was confirmed earlier this year.
